Background Edit

A mysterious wanderer whose origins with the Lightning flight are hidden behind milky white cataracts, Mathuin was discovered roaming the borders of the Red Kingdom's territory by Eithne, who spent some time in observation before eventually revealing herself to him. When she ascertained that he was no threat, she was prepared to let him move on without incident—despite his blindness he is quite capable at navigating the world, relying on touch, the typical Tundra's phenomenal sense of smell, and the occasional vision—but the Red Kingdom was at that time scant on magic-users. She invited him to visit the lair, and, finding that the clan was of interest to him, he elected to stay.

Soon he had settled into an office in the library, and struck up an amiable collaboration with the clan sorceress, Caoimhe, and they set to work on the protective warding that defends the lair to this day. His interest in the magical potential of the fossilized bones in the cave—not to mention his tendency to avoid large crowds—led to him often finding himself in the same spaces as Grainne. They developed a friendship, and after some months agreed to be mates.

Clan Role Edit

Mathuin serves as a seer and as one of the clan's two primary magic-users. He frequently works in collaboration with Caoimhe, but has plenty of his own projects as well. His magical style is subtle and earthy, relying more on potions, charms, herbs, and natural materials than on flashy arcane power. He often ventures out of the lair in search of ingredients for his spellcasting, and has an uncanny ability to pinpoint areas of considerable natural power, seemingly by scent.

Personality Edit

Mathuin is a solitary fellow by nature, but not unfriendly—though what passes for friendliness from him often involves enigmatic pronouncements, unsettling statements, and occasional cackling. While he can often be creepy and morbid, it's a hazard of his field, and when it all comes down to it he means well. He is interested in people, but finds large groups overwhelming, and prefers to deal with people singly or in small groups, preferably in a familiar environment. He is regarded with respect, fear, fondness, and no small amount of confusion by his clanmates, and is perfectly satisfied with that happy equilibrium.
