Geography[]
The Prisma Reef is an atoll of coral in the middle of the Sea of a Thousand Currents that fully encircles an archipelago of small islands, acting as a natural barrier.
The reef itself is a diverse habitat, thriving on nutrient rich waters and natural magicks. In some places the reefs and surrounding sea is shallow, and some parts of the reef are even exposed to the air, housing plants and animals that can thrive in partial/intermittent submersion.
Other areas of the reef are much deeper, offering shelves and drops, and entrances to a large cave system under the atoll.
The archipelego consists of three large islands, and five smaller islands. While the climate is generally tropical, ancient magic has allowed some significant difference in climate across these islands, which was amplified when the area was settled by dragons.
History[]
Little is known about the history of the reef, before the time of dragons. The western part of the atoll is called Wrecker's Reef, which gives some clue to the past: a ship graveyard, filled with the hulking carcasses of ancient sea vessels, dashed against the rocks. Now the reefs grow over the wrecks, bringing life back to them.
When the islands were settled, the dragons set up their first lair in the coral caves below The Hollow Cay. This remains the site of matriarch Hyetiana's lair. Later Reefwall Outpost was founded for defence of the immediate area, and Prisma Port to facilitate trade.
